Mumbai to host the inaugural Indian Sport Management Conference

New Delhi [India], December 13: December 16, 2024 will mark the new era for sport management in India as INSMA, a non-profit organisation promoting the sport management scholarship in India, and K J Somaiya Institute of Management join forces to host the inaugural Indian Sport Management Conference. The conference will take place at Somaiya Vidyavihar University, Mumbai’s largest private university campus, home to more than 30,000 students and 3,000 academic staff.

Theme: Shaping the Future of Sports in India: Innovation, Inclusion and Integrity

With the future of sports in India dependent on embracing cutting-edge innovation, promoting inclusion, and upholding ethical standards, this year’s conference will focus on key pillars to strengthen India’s sports ecosystem. By integrating advanced technologies, fostering diversity, and ensuring ethical practices, the conference aims to inspire attendees to contribute to India’s rise as a global sports powerhouse.

By leveraging new technologies, promoting gender equality and diversity, and establishing ethical frameworks, we aim to create a sports ecosystem that excels on the global stage and empowers the Indian people,” said Dr. Sarthak Mondal, President of INSMA.

INSMA has collaborated with international sport management institutions such as University of Lille, Global Institute of Sport and University of Portsmouth for the conference. The conference will see 30+ paper presentations, with around 350 people participating in the conference from across the globe. The oral paper presentations has attracted participants from reputed international universities such as University of Portsmouth (UK), Loughborough University (UK), Sheffield Hallam University (UK), James Madison University (USA) and University of the West Indies. There is also paper presentations by students and staff from reputed Indian sport management educational entities, including K J Somaiya Institute of Management and Symbiosis School of Sport Sciences.

Keynote by Dr. Christos Anagnostopoulos, UNESCO Chairholder on Governance and Social Responsibility in Sport

The keynote will be given by Dr. Christos Anagnostopoulos on good governance and integrity to shape the future of the Indian sports industry. Coming down from Doha for the conference, Dr. Anagnostopoulos is a UNESCO Chairholder and Assistant Professor at Hamad Bin Khalifa University and has played a pivotal role in Qatar’s recent rise in the sporting ecosystem.

Awards to be given out in the conference

A number of awards will be presented at the end of the conference, including Outstanding Research Paper by GOALS, Outstanding Professional Practice Paper by Global Institute of Sport and Best Student Paper by University of Portsmouth. Furthermore, INSMA in collaboration with UNESCO Chairholder on Governance and Social Responsibility in Sport will present the ChangeMaker in Sport 2024 Award to an individual or organisation in India who are transforming lives through the power of sport. The six shortlisted nominees for this prestigious award are: Simply Sport Foundation, Oscar Foundation, Shreeja India, Slum Soccer, Monkey Sports and Forca Goa Foundation.
